On Page SEO Checklist

on page SEO

On page SEO is an important process you should implement before considering an off page SEO campaign. This is the process of optimizing your website pages to achieve a higher SERP in search engines and subsequently receive more traffic.

Keyword research is a must before designing your website or you're wasting you time. The recent Google "Fred" algorithm update targets websites with thin low value content so you should have better quality content than your competitors. Mostly images and little word content isn't going to show Google what your website is about. Bottom line is you have to prove to Google your website is an authority for your niche.

Below is an on page SEO checklist

  • Page Title Tag - Besides the content, the page title tag is the second most important part of on-page SEO and should start with your most important keyword that is revelant for the page contents. 65 characters.
  • Meta Description Tag - 165 characters with your most important keywords at the beginning which are relevant to the page contents..
  • H1, H2, H3 HeadingTags - These send a good signal to Google so make sure your keywords are here also. H1 is your top heading tag, H2 is your subtitle heading and H3 is the paragraph heading. Make sure these headings are bold and contain your long tail kewords.
  • Text Content - Important keyword should be in the first sentence of the first paragraph or atleast above the fold. Try to strive for 800 words or more breaking them up into individual paragraphs with an H3 tag. Use anchor text links in your content pointing to revelant content on other pages.
  • Keyword Density - No more than 3% or too many can hurt you. Don’t over stuff keywords in your content, page title, description and headings tag.
  • Keywords - Use Google’s AdWord Key Planner to research your targeted keywords. Competitive keywords will be hard to rank for.
  • Duplicate Content - Identical content on other pages of your website can have negative impact to on-page SEO
  • Images - Make sure the filename, alt text and description contains keywords. Keep images optimized to a small file size. PNG transparent images can be quite large in file size so choose PNG-8 instead of PNG-24 which can reduce your file size by almost 50%.
  • Google Webmaster Tools and Analytics - Generate an HTML tracking code and embed in the head section of your web pages which helps you find out what keywords Google is picking up from your page and their dominance as well. click here.   For more information visit our  Google Webmaster Tools page.
  • Page Loading Speed - Most people are now using mobile devices so minify and compress your CSS and Javascript. Put all Javascript calls just before the closing body tag. Use this tool to check your page loading time click here
  • Quantity of Internal Incoming Links to a Page - Gives an indication of the page’s importance relative to other pages. Use different relevant anchor text for other pages pointing to your targeted page.
  • URL Length - File path after the last / in the URL should no more than 3.5 words and contain your long tail keywords.
  • External Backlinks - Incoming links to your website should be from high DA sites and relevant to your niche. Don't recommend backlinks from server link farms.
  • Content Updates - Keep your page content updated regularly as Google keeps track of update frequency by reading the last modified line in the sitemap.xml file. Adding or removing sections is more important than just changing the order of a few words.
  • Sitemap - Set page change frequency to daily or weekly and page priority accordingly.
  • Mobile Friendly - Your responsive web design site will have an edge in mobile device searches. Google has a mobile friendly test. To view your website on different mobile devices check here
  • JSON-LD Schema Markup - JavaScript Object Notation is a method of embedding structured data in your web page which allows search engines to know more about your local business.
